Despite back-to-back brutal losses, Blues fans need to remain patient with growth and development process

The Blues have now lost 3 of their last 4 games, being outscored 17-10 in that span and losing their last by a pathetic 8-1. Some fans have become restless, already throwing in the towel on the season. I don't agree, but I understand. We thought it was bad when they lost to Montreal 5-2, but then they went and got humiliated 8-1 by Ottawa in a game where really nothing went right (although, Philip Broberg managed to finish with an even +/- playing 24 minutes of that shitshow, but anyway...)

The only problem with throwing in the towel is, that's really not an option. The Blues have already sent out many aging veteran players and turned the roster over to mostly early 20's-aged players. Save for an AHL promotion here or there, this is the roster the Blues will have for the foreseeable future. The Blues season was always going to be decided by the development of the young players; and after 10 games, that ain't changed.

In addition to the youth movement on the roster, the Blues also are working in many new faces from last season. All 4 scoring lines and 2 of 3 defensive pairings have at least 1 new starter on them: Broberg, Suter, and Joseph on defense. Holloway, Joseph, Faksa, and Texier on offense.

This was always going to take time, and there were always going to be bumps in the road along the way. There's no sugarcoating it, these last 2 losses were ugly, but they're also learning experiences for younger players. They'll get better from this, figure out what they need to improve upon, and grow. The Blues will be a better team for it, even though it might not seem like it now.

Don't give up Blues fans, it's far too early for that. The team is 5-5 after 10 games, with the last 2 losses being unusually brutal. I doubt they lose many more like this, this is likely the low point of the season. If they keep losing like this though, they've got much deeper problems than any of us realize.
